Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started
What is Vezne?
Vezne is a personal finance tracker. Record and categorize your income and expenses, import bank statement files, set up rules that categorize new transactions automatically, and track it all from a dashboard — with no live connection to your bank.
Is Vezne free to use?
Yes, Vezne is currently free. If paid plans are introduced later, pricing will be shown to you up front before anything is charged.
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No. Vezne never connects directly to your bank or asks for your banking credentials. You export a statement from your bank yourself and upload the file.
Importing bank statements
What file formats can I import?
Excel (.xlsx/.xls) and CSV files are supported today. PDF statements can also be imported using an optional AI-assisted parsing step — it’s off by default and only runs if you turn it on in Settings. Other formats (OFX, QIF) are planned but not available yet.
How does column mapping work?
After you upload a file, Vezne asks you to map its columns (date, amount, description, etc.) to the fields it understands. You can save a mapping, and it’ll be suggested automatically the next time you import a statement from the same bank.
Can I check the data before it’s added to my account?
Yes. Every import goes through a preview step where you can review, edit, or exclude individual rows before committing them to your account.
What if I accidentally import the same statement twice?
Vezne checks for duplicates automatically during import, so re-uploading a statement — or one with an overlapping date range — won’t create duplicate transactions.
Categories, tags & automation
How are categories organized?
Categories have up to two levels — a parent for grouping, and children underneath it. Transactions and rules always attach to a specific child category, never to a parent group directly.
What are tags for?
Tags are flat labels you can attach to any transaction, independent of its category — useful for cutting across categories, like tagging everything related to a trip.
How do automation rules work?
Rules run in priority order during import. Each rule matches transaction text (contains, equals, starts with, or ends with a value you set) and, when it matches, assigns a category and optionally a type or tags — so recurring transactions get sorted automatically instead of by hand every time.
Account & security
How is my password protected?
Your password is stored as a salted hash — Vezne never stores or has access to it in plain text.
Can I sign in with Google?
Yes, Google Sign-In is available alongside email and password, at your choice.
What happens if I delete my account?
Your account is deactivated immediately, with a 30-day window to restore it just by signing back in. After that window, your data is permanently deleted.
Is my data shared with anyone?
No — Vezne doesn’t sell your data or use it for advertising. A small number of service providers help run the product (sign-in, bot protection, error tracking, and the optional AI parsing feature), each only receiving what it needs to do its job. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Where can I read the full legal terms?
See the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
